A mole(鼹鼠) is built very well for digging. It can dig at a rate of 3.5m per hour. Moles dig a whole networnnels underground. The first kind is close to the surface. These tunnels are not really constructed at all. They just happen as the moles push through the earth when hunting for food. Moles don’t take away the soil from these tunnels. They just push it aside as they move along. The second kind of tunnel is deeper. Moles use these tunnels to get to their hunting grounds and back home to their nests. The nests are lined with grass and leaves. Moles dig an escape tunnel starting downwards away from the nest, and then up to the surface for a quick getaway if there is danger.
How does a mole get rid of all the earth it digs out of its nest and tunnels? As the mole digs with its two front paws, it pushes the earth under its body. Then it uses its back paws to kick the earth behind it out of its way. After digging like that for a while, the mole turns around and pushes all this loose earth to the surface. The mole leaves the earth in piles called molehills. There are always several molehills together. They are clear signals that moles live nearby. The biggest molehill is right above the mole’s nest. The smaller molehills around it are made of the earth from the hunting tunnels.
Moles can’t live long if the air in their tunnels is too dry. Farmers and gardeners detest moles. They often damage the roots of plants as they dig.
Moles need a lot of energy for their digging, so they need a lot of food to stay alive. They will eat their own weight in food each day. Imagine what would happen if you ate that much.

Yasuda is 95 years old. Looking for easier ways to search the Web and send email, he bought Apple’s iPad. The company has sold 3.27 million iPads since they entered the market in April. Although it’s impossible to know with certainty how many seniors are buying them, evidence suggests that it’s a hit with seniors.
The iPad’s intuitive interface(直观界面) makes it attractive to seniors around the world, says Takahiro Miura, a researcher at the University of Tokyo. “The iPad is a good tool for seniors because it’s very easy to use,” he says. “Unlike the PC, it doesn’t require former knowledge.”
